Der Berg steht redend für den Ortsnamen, der früher meist Zu dem Berge lautete. Der Schrägbalken ist dem Wappen der Herren von Berge (vom Perge) entnommen, einem Ministerialengeschlecht, das im 14. Jahrhundert bezeugt ist. Von Ott vom Berge ist ein Siegelabdruck an einer Urkunde aus dem Jahr 1358 überliefert.
