Line U2 of the Vienna Metro transports passangers between Stadion and Karlsplatz. Construction work on the line started in 1963, today’s full length was completed in 2008, running on elevated track until Kireau, and then in an underground tunnel. The length of the line is 4.6 miles, travel time is 15 minutes, and there are 9 stations in between: Kireau, Messe Prater, Praterstern, Taborstraße, Schottenring, Schottentor, Rathaus, Volkstheater, Museumsquartier. An extention line further east to Aspernstraße is under construction.
Praterstern is the third stop of the Viennese U2 metro line, the purple line, going from the eastern end, Stadion, embracing downtown. It was opened in 2008.
