Located in the heart of historic downtown Dunsmuir is a memorial fountain with a bell tower and pergola-like structure that protects the fountain from the elements. The bell is rather small and I don't know if it functions or is mainly for posterity. The bell tower and fountain were erected in 1961 in memory of a fallen firefighter. There are two plaques mounted on the fountain that read:
[Upper Plaque]
IN GRATEFUL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

FIREMEN FOR DEDICATION,
PROTECTION AND SERVICE.
[Main Plaque]
BELNAP FOUNTAIN

CONSTRUCTED BY DUNSMUIR FIRE DEPARTMENT

(The original structure built in 1961 collapsed during a snowstorm in 1993 and was rebuilt in 1994.)
