Back in 1939, the Metcalf family bought the Dooley Theater building, and later, some time between 1941 and 1943, renamed it the McClain Theater after the county. The theater had 450 seats and operated until the late 1940s. The Purcell Register newspaper has occupied the building since then.
The interior no longer resembles a theater, with the exception of the stairway to the projection booth which is still intact. The entrance has been renovated and currently has a Permastone veneer with a single glass door and two sidelights.
The building has a tall stone facade, reminiscent of theater construction of its day.
