The tiny village of Standard has a relatively large fire station for its size - and has one of the coolest toys - a hover craft!

In Standard village, along IL Route 71, is the Standard Fire Protection District, which has its station in the village.

The station is easily visible from the highway. It is set back from the road on the north side on the west end of the village of 250.

The village has only 250 people in it, yet the building has four bays to it, with a central entrance by a bell. No doubt the fire department serves a large portion of Putnam County, as well.

I can't find much on the fire department, and little about the village. I am guessing that the fire staff are all volunteer based on the ruralness of the area. However, I found a newspaper article from the Peoria Journal-Star that talks about one of their toys - a hovercraft! The center of the village is about a mile south of the Illinois River. The article talked about how useful it was during the time when the river was flooded.
