The library in Burney is a branch of the Shasta County Library System which began in 1903 with the establishment of the Redding Library. At its peak the system had 20 branches but today there are only 2 branches in addition to the main library in Redding. (

The Burney Library opened in 1949 and the current building was built in 1969. As part of the Shasta Public Libraries system Burney offers all the benefits of a bigger facility but in a condensed form. There are four internet-accessible computers, a reference section, a vast collection of videos and DVDs and a well-stocked New Books area.
