Tankerton, a small historic town on the north Kent Coast lies between Whitstable and Herne Bay. The shingle beach is a short distance from these beach huts. Built on a bank the huts are three deep inplaces and painted in assorted colours.

The bank these huts are built on are designated as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). That is because here they support the largest single population of the large umbellifer hog's fennel (Peucedanum officinale in latin)in Britain.
