As the locals tell it, the cross was built and erected by school children in 1950. It was on public property at the time and, for reasons of their own, some residents complained about it and campaigned for its removal. So someone (possibly the selfsame children) had it moved onto private property so noone but the owner could remove it.
According to the same legend, the letter "C", adjacent to the cross was also done by the school children at around the same time.
