This space once held one of the earliest mills. With the development of the Erie Canal this strip of land separated the Genesee River from Child's Basin: a place where barges loaded and unloaded, just off the canal where the canal crossed the river via aqueduct.
During the pleasant weather months, this park hosts the downtown "lunch crowd": office workers who come outside to eat their lunches. A hotdog vendor is always near at hand on the north end (Main St) to sell you a hot lunch if you didn't pack your own.
In the summer months, the City organizes Music performances here and at other pocket parks throughout downtown through its Concert in the Park series.
It offers an attractive view of the Convention Center and the Aqueduct Bridge, with the Genesee River in the foreground.
