There's two former chalk mines in Åvensor. They are both at northern-most tips of the island, where there are higher rocky hills. There are remains of the chimneys and some other buildings. One of the open quarries forms a freshwater lake – a lovely spot for a summer dip. The views from the hills are spectacular: great for summer sunsets, then the sun really sets in the north, only to rise a couple of hours later just slightly further east.
