In medieval burgherhouse called Levocský dom (Levoca House), located in the historic centre of Košice, you can visit the oldest continuosly operating inn in Slovakia - Restaurant Levocský dom.
Two storey late-Gothic burgherhouse with distinct oriel, located on the corner of Hlavná (Main) and Univerzitná (University) streets in Košice historic centre, was built in the beginning of the 15th century. Originally, shortly after its construction, it was property of Košice' compatriot and royal chancellor Juraj Satmári. Further owner was paladin Alexius Thurzo, who bequeathed it to town Levoca, which possesed it in 1542-1569 (...and from that times house bears Levoca' name). Later, in 1569, house was bought by Košice city council for 4000 guldens and a first-class urban inn was established here. Grandiose wedding ceremony of Transsylvanian prince and leader of one of Hungarian estate uprisings, Gabor (Gabriel) Bethlén and Katharina von Brandenburg, sister-in-law of Swedish king Gustav II. Adolf was held here in March 1626. The wedding, which lasted a week was attended by several European rulers, making the City of Košice one of the most important cities of Europe for a moment...
