We thought that was a cute motto, and thought no more about it. Later, however, we happened to be in the
Little Gallea Restaurant (345 W 3rd Ave. [Highway 395]) when B struck up a conversation with a patron and the conversation turned to
The Grouch. It turns out that the sign is incorrect - the town is replete with grouches.
It works thus:
Every year they hold a
Grouch Election, in which a new
Grouch of the Year is crowned. They have been doing this for several years, so the town is home to quite a number of
Grouches. As a matter of fact, the 2004
Grouch of the Year happened to work in that very restaurant and was standing quietly nearby, adding not a whit to the conversation until the patron deigned to point her out. At this time a picture on the wall was drawn to our attention - a picture of our resident grouch standing beside her
