Tento platan stoji v blízkosti jednoho z nejvydatnejsich mikulovskych pramenu. Diky tomu je jeho vzrust nadprumerny.
Statny, az 40 m vysoky strom s sirokou a rozlozitou korunou. Borka v mladi hladka, vekem se odlupuje v typickych velkych nepravidelnych platech a tak dosahuje pestreho zbarveni kmene i vetvi (zelene, sede, zlute a hnede). Listy jsou velke, dlanite clenene a se zubatymi laloky. Kvety jednopohlavne, plody kyjovite orisky seskupene do kulovitych plodenstvi.
Vetsina platanu pochazi z USA a Mexika, puvod p. javorolisteho je vsak neznamy. Pro svuj mohutny vzrust a toleranci k znecistenemu ovzdusi je casto vysazovan do aleji, mestskeho prostredi a do parku.
Drevo svetle cervenohnede s vyraznymi paprsky, pevne a ohebne. Vyuzivano prevazne do luxusnich bytovych a automobilovych interieru. Vyrabi se z neho nabytek, osvetlovaci konstrukce, obklady dveri a sten, kvalitni dyhy a intarzie. Vhodne k soustruzeni (rukojete, dekorativni predmety).
