"An angel is a supernatural being or spirit, usually in humanoid form with feathered wings on their backs and halos around their heads, found in various religions and mythologies.

The theological study of angels is known as "angelology". In Zoroastrianism and Abrahamic religions they are often depicted as benevolent celestial beings who act as intermediaries between Heaven and Earth, or as guardian spirits or a guiding influence.

The term "angel" has also been expanded to various notions of spirits found in many other religious traditions. Other roles of angels include protecting and guiding human beings, and carrying out God's tasks." (visit link)

Bargoed is receiving a guardian angel of its very own as part of the regeneration of the area.

The Angel stands with open arms at the northern entrance to Bargoed’s High Street and was inspired by the sculpture’s proximity to Angel Way, the War Memorial and the church overlooking the site.

It has taken two years for the design to go from the first drawing board to the finished article, with consultation with the Chamber of Trade, Greater Bargoed Partnership and councillors.

Nearby schools also got involved with workshops, while St Gwladys Church and the history society also helped bring the plans to fruition.

“The artworks form an important part of the wider regeneration of the town centre, providing points of interest throughout the town centre and helping to mark important gateways and entrance points to the town,” the spokeswoman said.

“They also help to engender a sense of pride and ownership within the community because they have been part of the design process.”

To mark its arrival at 10am on Saturday, December 1, the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Gaynor Oliver, will officially unveil the statue in a ceremony where Bargoed Male Voice choir and St Gwladys Primary School choir will entertain guests with a range of Christmas classics."
