As the plaque reads:
Piapot
In 1883, the famous Cree Chief, Piapot, came into conflict with the CPR in this vicinity. He and his people camped in the middle of the projected right-of-way and refused to move.
Construction was held up for some time until the Crees' were persuaded to break camp by two mounted police who had boldly ridden into hostile encampment.
Shortly after the incident, Piapot and his people moved to the reserve they had been allotted in the Qu'Appelle Valley.
