The Old School medieval house was originally seat of Melník collegiate chapter at Ss. Peter and Paul and cleric' school or scriptorium, which downfall is connected with Hussite wars in the 1st quarter of the 15th century. Subsequently, the house became a seat of town's particular latin school. Among teachers here worked important Renaissance humanists Matouš Hosius Vysokomýtský (1576 – 1577) and Jan Civilius–Meštánek Lomnický (? - 1587). The school was operating here until 1787.
