In Metamora, on the south side of the village green, is a war memorial for those who served in the military in one of several wars.
The memorial is located near the southern edge, visible from Mt. Vernon Street, and is roughly halfway between Davenport and Menard Streets.
The monument is about six feet high comprised of a centeral wall and two flanking square pillars, with cobblestones set in all of them. Along the top are the words, "Honor Roll." Medallions representing the branches of the military are set in the monument. The names are on both sides of the main wall, embossed in bronze square tiles. The Wars are noted with the names appearing at the bottom. A name that has a star is a person who died during service.
The memorial is in good condition, though some of the plate screws have given way and are missing, allowing some of the plates to jut out.
The number of names on the memorial is surprising, given that the current population of Metamora is 3600 (and was probably less in the previous wars). There are about 1200 names from the wars specified. A web site, link included, has the names listed.
I could not find specific markers or information about when the memorial was dedicated or by who.
