Carolina City was a large Confederate camp until Union Troops captured the area in March 1862. This marker is on U.S. Hwy 70 on Morehead City.

Carolina City was a camp for Confederate troops early in the war, but became a Union base and headquarters in March 1862 as Union troops advanced on Fort Macon from New Bern. Abandoned after the war, Carolina City became part of Morehead City.
