This memorial is located on the waterfront part in Simon's Town.

Here is the text from the memorial plaque:

"SS Mendi Memorial Plaque
The converted Troopship SS Mendi transporting the first contingent of black South African troops to France sand after a collision in fog 11.3 miles SW of the Isle of Wight at 04h57 on 21 February 1917. Six hundred and seven men were lost.
Rev Isaac Wauchope Dyobha cried out "Be quiet and calm-we die like brothers-we are sons of Africa"
Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrica
erected as a tribute to these brave men
by the South African Navy and Naval Heritage Trust"
