This lighthouse was completed in 1859, and stands 249 metres above the Atlantic Ocean, on the highest peak on the peninsula. Unfortunately, it was placed so high up, and its beam was often obscured by mist and foul weather to be of use to mariners. Another lighthouse was built, lower on the cliff.
