The landscape around Baden may be beautiful, but it's especially known for its water. The yellow-gold sulphur spring in Baden bubbles out of the ground at a natural temperature of 36°C. and is situated about 1,000 metres deep below the earth's surface. It is mainly used in the treatment of chronic illnesses of the musculo-skeletal system and for rheumatic conditions.
There are 14 recorded hot sulphur springs in Baden, out of which flows pure sulphur water that is used for the treatments. The largest and warmest spring, the "Marienquelle" spring, not only supplies the Römertherme thermal baths, but also the "Badener Kurzentrum" health centre and the Badener Hof Hotel with sulphur water.
Many lovingly designed details reveal that the Römertherme thermal baths in Baden was erected on the site of a former open-air bath; now air, light and sunlight are able to flood into this both modern and historic space through the largest freely supported glass roofin Europe.
The Römertherme incorporates both of the traditional baths - the mineral swimming school and former indoor baths - to create a spa that's open all year round.
The main building at the Römertherme thermal baths in Baden was built in the first half of the 19th century (in the neo-classical period) and was designed and constructed by the architects responsible for designing the Vienna State Opera - Sicardsburg and Van der Nüll.
The sauna and steam bath world and the restaurant are located in this area.
