The summit of this high point on the south rim of Newberry Crater is a short distance off the Newberry Crater Rim Trail. It is about 2 miles by trail from the nearest road. Newberry Crater is actually a caldera, which formed about 75,000 years ago. The caldera covers 17 square mile and is located at the summit of Newberry Volcano which covers 1200 square miles with flows extending about 75 miles north-south and 40 miles east-west.
