The bronze statue is about a third to half life-size and is known as the "Chile Statue" because it was presented by the Boy Scouts of Chile in 1929 in recognition of them being one of the first countries outside of British influence to start Scouting in 1909.
It shows an Indian holding a Puma which represents the overcoming of difficulties by strength and defiance. Or alternatively how Scouting tames the wild animal inside the child! The Puma is over the Indian's right shoulder and in his left had is a sword or long knife in a scabbard. The muscular figure is captured in full stride wearing a loin cloth.
The statue is mounted on a circular stone plinth.
There are two inscriptions on the base of the statue. One reads "El Toqui" and has some other mark below it - possibly the sculptor's signature. The other inscription reads "A Sir Baden Powell / Los Scouts de Chile / 1925".
