In 1907, Locomotive No. 1951 was put into service on the Santa Fe line, and served faithfully for 47 years until she was retired in 1954. Atop her sleek iron frame, this bell rang out to announce her arrival into the stations along the route.

In 1955, the locomotive was presented to the City of Pauls Valley and placed on display. But sadly, vandals and pranksters took souvenirs from the train, including this bell. Its whereabouts remained a mystery until one day in March 2008, when it appeared anonymously at the back door of the depot museum.

This is a heavy brass bell which is still mounted in its harp with the mechanism with which it was rung. This is definitely a story with a happy ending.

The museum is open Tuesday thru Friday from 9-4:30, and on Saturday from 1-4:30. Come by and see it, and the other railroad and town memorabilia on display.
