The Epping Forest Information Centre is the name recorded on the "opening" plaque but it is now known as the Epping Forest Visitor Centre. It is on the west side of the forest in an area known as High Beech.

?The High Beach Visitor Centre is
situated at High Beach, a traditional Epping Forest beauty spot. Staff are
on hand to advise you about your visit and help you enjoy the forest. A full
range of leaflets and maps are available, as well as a good selection of
toys, gifts and souvenirs including items made from Epping Forest wood. The
Visitor Centre is the place to come to buy tickets for events or horse
riding licences.
Sir Francis McWilliams, an engineer, was Lord Mayor of
London for the year 1992-3.

City of London website tells us about the role of the Lord Mayor:
The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor
of the City of London is the official title for the head of the City of
London Corporation, which provides local, policing and other services for
the Square Mile.
The Lord Mayor presides over its governing bodies, the Court of Aldermen and
the Court of Common Council and within the City, only the Sovereign takes
precedence.
Outside the City the Lord Mayor takes precedence with, but after, members of
the Cabinets. On behalf of the Sovereign and the Government the Lord Mayor
regularly acts as a host for hospitality provided by the City of London
Corporation for visiting heads of state and foreign dignitaries.
A dedicated ambassador, supporting and promoting the City as the world
leader in international finance and business services, the Lord Mayor
travels extensively, in liaison with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
fostering goodwill and boosting British trade, particularly the markets and
services of the City.
As part of the programme for the year, the Lord Mayor takes part in a series
of international visits leading delegations of senior business
representatives to meet those at the highest levels of government and
industry in overseas countries. This is with the aim of selling the City as
a place in which to do business and promoting its expertise. This can range
from advice on raising capital for major infrastructure projects to private
finance initiatives and government-industry co-funding arrangements.
A domestic programme of visits keeps the Lord Mayor in touch with regional
economic activity and promotes the contribution the City can make in these
areas.
The role is enhanced by the entirely non-party political nature of this
office and of the City of London. The Lord Mayor's activities reflect not
only a ceremonial and diplomatic importance, but also those of a trusted
spokesperson for the business and financial community.
In promoting the City, the Lord Mayor acts in close collaboration with other
leading members of the City of London including the Chairman of the Policy
and Resources Committee. Working with the Court of Common Council, the Lord
Mayor ensures that the City's interests are reflected in London-wide and
national policy and development.
