This Foucault pendulum was designed and constructed by Karl-Franz Hafner back in 1970. The pendulum swings for four seconds in each direction. The pendulum uses all five stories of a stairwell in the Herzberg Physics Building at Carleton University. Below the pendulum pedestal, the stairwell leads directly to the pedestrian tunnels for the university campus. Before extensive alterations to the building for an elevator, the pendulum was originally in the main lobby of the building.
