NorthEast of Plush Oregon on a dirt road, is the Sunstone digging area. There are two or three commercial sites, nearby, but this is just east of those sites. Bring shovels, and buckets, and if you are a rock hound, screens etc, for sifting your fines, and separating your gems.
This stone is a feldspar opal like stone, with colors from copper staining. it can be faceted, and polished. The commercial sites have finished examples for sale.
Plush is the nearest place for food and water, etc. Small store. There is a hot springs nearby on Hart Mountain, and of course this is the gateway to the Oregon Outback. Amazing deserts, incredible sunsets, much wildlife.
Lakeview OR is also nearby, about 50 miles. Full service stores, and a Chamber of Commerce with information about the Sunstones, geysers, and hot springs around the area.
Welcome to Oregon deserts!
I have seen low cars out there, so a truck or 4WD isn't absolutely required.the road is washboard. there are no fees to park, for access, or to dig, except at the commercial sites nearby.
