The Place: The town of Lyons, population 1,161 (as of 2010), is among the fastest growing towns in Linn County. The town was founded by James C. and Henry Lyons, two Irish brothers who settled here around 1880. The town officially incorporated in 1958. The town's major industries in the early years included timber and the railroad. Today, timber is still a key economic base.

The Person: Captain James Lyons was a retired military man having served with the Union Army in the Civil War and in numerous Indian Wars. He and his brother Henry founded the town of Lyons. No photographs of the brothers were available.
