The Arboretum came into being when some seeds that had been collected on a holiday trip in 2004 to Far North Queensland were planted to see if they would germinate out of their normal environment. Surprisingly several different trees began to grow & thrive even surviving the cold winters.
Shoalhaven City Council was approached to gain official permission to create an Arboretum & after much investigation the Council agreed to support the project. The Arboretum became a Parkcare project in 2009 & was officially opened in 2011.
The majority of trees & shrubs are identified with small, numbered plaques. A self guided tour using a printed guide gives the history of the Arboretum, has an aerial view, provides information on each plant & the numbers assist in identifying the huge range of plant species.
Entry is free with the Arboretum best experienced between 6am & 6pm, 7 days a week.
