The South Beach Interpretive Boardwalk leads to an overlook with interpretive signs. There are four signs at this location. Two signs deal with the formation and changes to South Beach caused by the Yaquina Bay jetties. This is one of two which deal with the biological changes. The title is “A forest is built by plant pioneers” and deals with the pioneering plants which slowly stabilize sand dunes to allow a forest to begin growing. The plants highlighted include Black twinberry, dune tansy, beach pea, beach strawberry, sea pink, seashore lupine, sea rocket, and American dunegrass.
