In Washington, at Washington Square, is a bell mounted on a brick piller on the southwest corner that was Washington's first fire bell.

The bell display is on the green in the center of a rotary at the center. Business US 24 (Peoria St and Eureka Rd) and Main Street come together at this rotary. The bell is visible from south of the green. The brick base is four sided and rises about 4 ft from the ground. The bell is on a metal bracket that extends from the base. There are four plaques on the base, one for each side. One of them is for the bell, and states the following:

"Washington's Bell

This is the town's original fire bell, which was rung for the fires and curfews. It was mounted over the water tower on the southeast corner of the square.

In 1975 the Washington volunteer fire department members brought the bell out of storage and constructed a monument in front of city hall, which honored the Washington fire fighters and Washington history."
