The pillar honoring Jim Turner stands about 8' (2.43 m) tall and is made of sheet steel that has been allowed to rust. The 3D head is cast of bronze, as well as the players former number and plaque explaining their contributions to the Broncos and [American] Football. The pillars are illuminated at night. As I am a Denver native, I have followed the Broncos all of my life -- from the laughing stock of the league with the ugly brown and mustard yellow uniforms to the blue and orange who have won several Superbowl's (though not lately!).

"Each bronze likeness of the players was sculpted by Brian Hanlon, a classically trained master sculptor who has sculpted more than 200 public art pieces. He also explained a unique feature of the base of each pillar.

"The pillars are constructed in corten steel, which was the material your original building (Mile High Stadium) was made out of, and that's why it was so loud," Hanlon said. "So the design was amazingly creative that the architect and the designer came up with the idea that they should be this material that intimidated so many other teams."" (from (visit link) )

Jim Turner --
"Jim Turner was one of 3 inductees into the Ring of Fame in 1988. He is a kicker and wore number 15. He was on the Jets before becoming a Bronco. He won a Super Bowl against the Colts that was the famous Joe Namath guarantee game. He actually was a quarterback in college, so I will cut him some slack. He kicked for the Broncos from 1971-1979.

From the Broncos website:
Jim Turner, a 1988 inductee into the Ring of Fame, ranks as one of the most prolific kickers of all time in professional football. At the time of his retirement, Turner ranked second in NFL career scoring with 1,439 points, as well as second in field goals with 304. Turner kicked 521 extra points and was the fourth player to ever reach the 500 mark. He never missed a game as a pro and finished with a streak of 228 consecutive appearances, including 130 as a Bronco, for whom he scored 742 points, easily establishing himself as Denver’s all-time scoring leader until Jason Elam eclipsed his mark in 1999. He once had a string of 221 consecutive extra points, which was then the second-longest streak in NFL history. Before joining the Broncos in 1971, Turner was an outstanding kicker for the New York Jets, helping lead the club to a victory in Super Bowl III." (from (visit link) )

Jim Turner was one of the last kickers that used the older style of head-on kicking before the development of the soccer-style kicking. When he walked on the field to attempt the PAT (Point after touchdown), it was like the fans knew he would hit the mark and score that extra point.
