Bertie is commanded by his Aunt Dahlia Travers to go to a silver smiths and sneer at a silver cow creamer that her husband wants to buy at a Knock down price. When Bertie arrives at the silver smith’s shop Sir Watkyn Basset and Roderick Spode are already there. Bertie sneers at the cow creamer and the silver smith invites him to take the creamer outside to look at the hall mark. Falling over the shop threshold he bumps into Sir Watkyn. Sit Watkyn thinks Bertie is stealing the creamer and summons the police. Bertie does a runner and hides at the Drones Club. Sir Watkyn bags the cow creamer for himself.

Meanwhile Gussie Finknottle, engaged to Madeline Basset, is having troubles and sends a telegram to Bertie. Apparently Madeline has caught Gussie getting some dirt out of Stiffy Byng’s eye and got the wrong end of the stick. Bertie reluctantly goes off to Totleigh Towers with orders from Aunt Dahlia to steal the cow creamer back. Unfortunately Roderick Spode catches him admiring the cow creamer and Sir Watkyn has Constable Oates guard it.

In the village, after sending a telegram to Aunt Dahlia, Bertie bumps into Stiffy. Stiffy’s dog has just caused Constable Oates to take a tumble off his bicycle into the pond. Stiffy is engaged to the Rev Harold Pinker, but Sit Watkyn, as Stiffy’s guardian, objects to them getting married. Stiffy wants Bertie to steal the cow creamer, to allow Harold to get into Sir Watkyn’s good books by biffing the burglar. Bertie is not keen on being hit and caught by Harold. Aunt Dahlia, having arrived at Totleigh Towers, is also keen for Bertie to get the cow creamer.

Before Bertie and Harold can affect a burglary Aunt Dahlia makes off with the cow creamer whilst Oates is having a cigarette. Sit Watkyn has the place searched and does not find the cow creamer. Aunt Dahlia leaves Totleigh Towers in a huff and waits outside the gate for Bertie and Jeeves to leave. Jeeves has used the cow creamer as the car mascot to get past Sir Watkyn. He removes it from the car and gives it to Aunt Dahlia.
