The Place: This active aviation support facility houses the Charlie Co. 7-158 Aviation unit that conducts search and rescue and evacuation missions. The facility is home to twelve UH-60 “Black Hawk”, four OH-58 “Kiowa”, one (1) C-23 “Sherpa” and one (1) C-12 “Huron” aircraft. The facility is located on the east side of McNary Field in Salem, Oregon.

According to the Oregon Military Department Site Readiness Plan (2009), there are "297 drill status military members assigned to this location. This facility provides space to train and drill for mission readiness, along with space to coordinate operations. The AASF #1 and OSACOM support the assigned federal, state, and community missions of the ARNG. Additionally there are 117 full time federal and state employees, active guard-reserve (AGR) and contractors that work at this site."

In October 2012, the facility was renamed the "Governor Theodore Kulongoski Oregon National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility" in honor of former Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski.

The Person: Theodore "Ted" Kulongoski was the 36th Governor of Oregon (2003-2011). He served in the United States Marine Corps. Elected to two terms as Governor he was noted as a strong supporter of Oregon's military personnel and families, attending nearly all of the Oregon National Guard's deployment ceremonies and the funerals of Oregon service members killed overseas.
