Travelers stopping at the
Midland Rest Area might notice this kiosk display near the restrooms. This kiosk highlights the
Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway that follows this stretch of Hwy 97 on its way north to Crater Lake National Park at the northern tip or south to Lassen Volcanic National Park at the southern tip. This map does a good job of pointing out interesting locations that make up the 'Ring of Fire' which comprises many volcanoes and lava beds of this area that travelers may come across along the roads and highways that make up this Scenic Byway. The map also lists other 'All American Roads' that have been designated as official Scenic Byways. They include the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway, Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway, Oregon's Outback National Scenic Byway, Emigrant Trails Scenic Byway and the Modoc Volcanic Scenic Byway.
