US 54 crosses the MISSOURI LINE, in the middle of the CHAMP CLARK BRIDGE (toll, 50¢) over the Mississippi River, 20 miles southwest of Pittsfield, Illinois. The bridge was completed in 1928 at a cost of $1,000,000. -

The Champ Clark Bridge still spans the Mississippi River at Louisiana, Missouri. The narrow 20-foot wide supports traffic in both directions and no longer is a toll charged. The bridge is a five span truss bridge that is 2,286.4 feet long.
The bridge is named after James Beauchamp "Champ" Clark, a former Speaker of the House from Bowling Green, Missouri. He served as Speaker from 1911 to 1919.
The bridge is tentatively scheduled for retirement and replacement sometime in the next ten years.
