Besides the standard swimming pool, the pool complex has a splash playground, complete with water buckets, flower showers, etc. Lifeguards are on duty whenever the pool is open. One really nice feature of the pool is a raised concrete divider between the splash and deeper end to prevent young ones from accidentally going too deep. The deep end has a slide and a 3-ft. diving board. There are no trees around the immediate pool area, but parts of the deck are covered with the types of awnings one finds in automobile dealerships.
The pool is also the home of the Miss Silver Springs pageant each August. The pageant has been in existence in the park since 1954. At that time, the pool and park existed for springfield's African-American community. The pageant was started to give young Black girls a chance to compete in a beauty pageant because they could not do so in the "regular" pageants.
