Visitors to Cherry Creek Trailhead will not be disappointed with the hike that lies in store. Beautiful and scenic views of a variety of flora, along with crystal-clear Cherry Creek greet the hiker at every turn. The trailhead starts at a parking lot after a 1.5 mile drive from West Side Rd. At the beginning of the trail is a trail register that you can sign, as well as a bulletin board of information about this trail as well as the Sky Lakes Wilderness Area.

The length of the trail itself is over four miles long and slowly ascends in altitude towards a large grouping of smaller, crystal-clear lakes that most people rarely see (including me). I only had time to hike just over half the length of the trail but I really enjoyed having Cherry Creek trickling in the background during my hike, as well as the wonderful smells of forest trees and plantlife permeating in the crisp, open air.

If you manage to hike to the end of the trail, you can connect to the Donna Lake Trail that meanders north or hit the Sky Lakes Trail that heads south. Or you can continue west and eventually you'll connect to the Divide Trail which will connect with the nationally-known Pacific Crest Trail.

ONE REQUIREMENT when hiking this trail during summer months: bring lots of mosquito repellent or you'll be eaten alive. Also, watch out for poison ivy that exists all along this trail. Veer too far off the trail and you might be scratching and burning all the way back to your car!
