We had tried several times to catch the firehouse open, and on Friday it finally happened. This fire truck was our main objective.

This vintage LaFrance-White was originally bought by the Trail Fire Department in 1923, then went to Kinnaird in about 1953, thence to the Waldie Lumber Mill Fire Department, finally landing at its present home in the 1980s.
Restoration on the truck began in 1988 and was completed in 1993, all done by the members of the Castlegar Fire Department. The engine was bebuilt, all the wood (of which there's quite a bit) was replaced, the wooden wheels built anew, the leather seat redone and the body had a frame-off restoration. It positively sparkles today. It can be seen at parades and other events throughout southern BC in the summer.
This truck has a four cylinder, valve in block engine of 400 or 500 cubic inch displacement - really BIG.
