This memorial to Richard B. Anderson is located in a small memorial park near the county courthouse in Port Angeles. He died of wounds in the South Pacific in 1944.
His medal was awarded posthumously after he dived on a grenade which was rolling towards his fellow marines, taking the full impact and sacrificing his life to save the others.
