Many things happened on loggerhead Key, an island in the Dry Tortugas chain. This island was originally a Coast Guard station, and has an active light house. The Coast Guard has left, but the light house still operates with volunteers who stay in the brick home. During our visit a couple from Michigan was operating the light house, they do it every year for their vacation.
The island has a pier, but boats and ships cannot use it, it is off limits because it is now a memorial to a young Coast Guardsman who lost his life working on its repair. Seaman Apprentice William H. Graves. Lost his life June 1965.
The hut was originally built for the guardsmen, it has a pool table, weight bars, and discs, fridge. and pantry.
When I visited the island with 24 Boy Scouts on a high adventure, we spent a day on the island and overnighted just off shore.
During swimming and playing, we took a break in this hut, played pool, and enjoyed the soda and water from the fridge. We left some coin of the realm so our consumption could be replaced for other to use.
