St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in downtown New Bern was constructed by the oldest Catholic parish in North Carolina, founded in 1824. This original structure and adjourning rectory are located on Middle Street. The church's cornerstone was laid in 1840.

This church was built by North Carolina's oldest Catholic Parish, founded in 1824. The church historic sign in front of the building reads:
"The oldest Catholic Church in North Carolina, St. Paul's was constructed by Hardy Lane to the plan of Wm. H. Burgwin. Bishop John England laid the cornerstone in 1840. The steeple was added in 1896 by Herbert Simpson."
Services are still held at the church, although it looks like this is on Fridays only. See the gallery for a shot of the sign on the door with the church schedule.
