In Boston's South End neighborhood is a building with several neon signs. This one is for "Poe's Kitchen."
The building is along the southside of Boylston Street, west of the intersection with Arlington Street and about a block away from Boston Public Garden. The sign is located above the entrance.
The sign has multiple components. The top has neon tubes that form the word "Poe's," in red. In the middle of the O is the head of a rattlesnake - the other name of the establishment in this building - in green and yellow. Below this is the word, "Kitchen," in blue.
Edgar Allen Poe was born in this area. There is a plaque near his birthplace near the corner of Boylston and Charles Streets about three blocks to the east.
