This two-story Italianate style house was built for Abner D. Gardner and completed circa 1900. Gardner was born in neighboring Linn County and came to Stayton in 1876 where he purchased a drug store. He became postmaster in 1876 and also served on the city council and school board.

The house was served as a flower shop and gift shop but currently hosts a bed and breakfast and cafe.
