This is a very early model manure spreader as indicated by its wooden wagon bed. It is missing the conveyor that would have pushed the load of manure to be flung outward by the spikes on the roller at the rear. Action was made more efficient by mounting an auger behind the spiked roller that would spread the manure from side to side for greater coverage with each pass. Wood did not stand up well in this type of equipment so they were generally built of steel in later models.
