Visitors to Moore Park will come across this flora and fauna placard that exists along the paved portion of one of the many trails that exist within the park. This particular placard reads:
MOORE PARK:
HABITAT FOR MANY BIRDSThe two forest types found at Moore Park (juniper woodland and ponderosa pine) provide excellent habitat for many bird species, which means excellent birdwatching for park visitors. Some bird species are known as open nesters, which means they can build their nests on the ground, in trees, or in bushes. Primary cavity nesting birds make their own holes and usually create a new one with every breeding season. Secondary cavity nesters will use the holes made by other birds, or those found in nature due to decaying trees known as snags. Notice the variety of places birds can call home. Can you figure out what type of nester each bird on this sign is?
There are illustrations of birds to be found within Moore Park to include the bald eagle, Steller's Jay, tree swallow, American robin, California quail, rock wren, black-billed magpie and northern flicker. Maybe you can find a few of these species!
