Roudnice nad Labem is a small town on left bank of the Elbe River. It has about 13 500 inhabitants. The town is situated near the famous hill Ríp, which is well known for its legendary connection with Praotec Cech.

Hlaska tower is the only surviving remains of the fortification walls of the oldest part of Roudnice. In the 18th century the tower was used as a water tower for the fountain at Konský trh (the Horse Market, today Husovo Square). Nowadays, the gallery of the tower offers beautiful views over the panorama of the town of Roudnice and its surroundings.

Vež Hláska je jediným dochovaným pozustatkem opevnení staré Roudnice. Nekdejší Staré mesto se nacházelo v prostoru dnešního námestí Jana z Dražic a Podebradovy ulice. Puvodne kolem nej stála drevená hradba, zdenou hradbu s mestskými branami nechal vystavet teprve arcibiskup Jan Ocko z Vlašimi po roce 1378. Jako soucást opevnování byla na vyvýšeném míste postavena gotická pozorovací a ohlašovací vež, dnešní Hláska. Do 2. poloviny 17. století nebyla nikdy poškozena s výjimkou roku 1665, kdy byla pri velkém požáru mesta témer znicena. V 18. století byla rekonstruována a upravena pro nový úcel. Byl sem umísten vodojem pro kašnu na Konském trhu, dnešním Husove námestí.
