1947/01/01 by CGS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1947 (RLE) THE TANK IS LOCATED AT THE NORTHEAST EDGE OF TOWN, 50 FEET WEST OF U.S. HIGHWAY 77 AND 200 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF AN EAST-WEST ROAD. IT IS A FOUR LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE SUPPORTING A TANK ON THE TOP. IT IS ABOUT 100 FEET HIGH, SILVER IN COLOR WITH THE LETTERS CORTLAND ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE TANK. THE POINT OBSERVED UPON WAS THE BALL AT THE APEX OF THE ROOF.
