Glen Elgin was established in 1783 by the Ball family (giving the area its current name of Ball's Falls). Jacob Ball and his sons quickly built a trio of mills on Twenty Mile Creek and the town quickly expanded to include a blacksmith, tailor, weaver and butcher. Reaching a peak population of 19 in 1852, the building of the Great Western Railway killed the town in the late 1850s.
The Ball family sold the area to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Area in 1962. Many of the original buildings are still there as historical features including the blacksmith, mill, church, homestead and a barn.
