The track is 2 kilometres return in length & is very steep in places as it descends to the mine & a waterfall. There are numerous steps, both earthen & steel. Signs along the way inform when you enter a different vegetation type & at the bottom a sign gives details of the coal mine which opened in the 1860s before finally closing in 1915.

You cross the head of the falls before descending to the mine so don't attempt this walk after or during heavy rain. The National Park's site suggests this would be a good walk on a hot Summer's day due to the agreeable climate around the falls but you have to walk back up, either the way you came or continuing the loop. I'd suggest early Spring as the wildflowers are very attractive & the temperature still cool.

Even though it's a short walk it is steep & descends into a valley so let someone know before you set off & when you expect to return as there is no mobile (cell) coverage further down. Also be aware of snakes as at this time of year (Spring) they are very active.
